Orthoceras is a nautiloid cephalopod, a squid-like creature that had a hard exterior shell. They are closely related to the ammonite. The name orthceras actually means straight horn. The animal would build its shell over time and the shell is made of calcite and would often get very large in size. They are found in the Atlas Mountain of Morocco. These fossils date back about 350 million years! A great addition to your collection or a gift!
