Workshop Date: March 21st, 1pm to 2:30pm
Create your own unique hagstone amulet to take home, using simple materials and hagstones from the British Isles, inspired by traditional methods. Hagstones are naturally holed stones shaped by water and time have long held a place in the folk traditions of the British Isles. In this small-group class, we’ll explore the historical myth and folklore surrounding hagstones, focusing on documented traditions rather than modern reinterpretations.
Topics include their use in folk and home protection, beliefs surrounding nightmare and hag-riding, household and livestock safeguarding, and the idea of second sight as it appears in historical sources.
