The symbol displayed is The Helm of Awe, also known as The Helm of Terror. (Old Norse: Ægishjálmr) in Norse lore it is believed that anyone who wears the symbol will be protected from harm, especially when in battle. The oldest writing of it that we currently know of is found in the poem Fáfnismál from the Poetic Edda.  Dr. Jackson Crawford translates Fáfnismál, stanza 16, as:  I carried a helmet of the frightener, Ægishjálmr, among men while I laid upon the treasures. I thought myself stronger than all, I did not meet many menLots more interesting information can be found regarding The Helm of Awe symbol and it is worth the research.

The plaque displays a wonderful bronze finish with The Helm of Awe in the center surrounded by the Elder Futhark runes, and measures 8 1/2". Fitted with a wall hanging on the back.  This piece looks great hanging on the wall or displayed on a stand.
